My parents spent their honeymoon at Budock Vean in 1947, so we have a great fondness for the hotel. It has retained the ambience of a country house, and is a comfortable and peaceful place, set in beautiful grounds within the Helford River area. We quickly abandoned our plans to visit further afield and instead enjoyed the quiet lanes and pretty villages and inlets. Trebah and Glendurgan Gardens (National Trust) are a 15 minute walk from the hotel or 3 minute drive, each with ravine gardens, Trebah has a very nice cafe/restaurant. We especially enjoyed the amenities at the hotel, the 9 hole golf course and beautiful indoor pool. Dining in the Restaurant was a particular pleasure, the four course menu presented us with locally sourced and beautifully presented meals every evening and breakfast was a real treat, cooked to order and all served efficiently, our thanks to Lana and her team. These are difficult times for establishments such as Budock Vean and we wish them well.

What a find! I was impressed with the Reception Manager and the staff when I telephoned to make enquiries to stay for my wife and I, and two relatives. I was delighted to learn that this hotel is family-run. Very tasteful rooms, generous in size. Magnificent location in lovely grounds- worth a somewhat tortuous journey to find this hotel jewel. Charming ambiance. Food outstanding. Charming golf course. The hotel organised a wonderful boat trip for us with a most informative, interesting guide. Choice of fine dining or more casual terrace cuisine. Staff very professional, courteous and friendly. We will definitely return before long.

Very relaxed, beautiful room (though would have liked a better view!), very friendly staff, great trip on the Helford River in the hotel boat and exceptional dinner in the excellent restaurant. Breakfasts also great. Golf room was a bit intimidating as several club members sitting around and talking and so not really nice for a relative amateur to be discussing details - but then they are the paying regulars so no reason why they shouldn't feel at home. Pool and hot tub brilliant. Parking easy and plentiful. Few (any?) dogs and none apparent in the dining room which is good for disturbance and sanitation purposes.

Breakfast was comprehensive and cooked items were prepared to order. All the staff that we encountered were friendly, helpful and polite. The bedroom (we had a standard room - what were the Signature rooms?) which was adequate for our brief stay: the bed was comfortable and the facilities good. The grounds were extensive (including the golf course) and we enjoyed the walk through the valley gardens down to the river head where a small pleasant cafe is to be found.

Brian

The room was excellent , very spacious and extremely clean and comfortable. We were given a complimentary upgrade on arrival which was much appreciated and we had a beautiful view of the gardens. The gardens are really beautiful and very well kept, lovely walk down to the foreshore and a wooded area to exercise our dog off the lead. All the staff were friendly and welcoming and the breakfast was very good.
